Outlander (2008) IMDB page here An alien human called Kainan (Beowulf) accidentally brings an alien monster and its mother (Grendel & Grendel's Mum) to Earth and fights them to protect the tribe he intigrates into. Earth is a seed colony, which was started to breed soldiers for an eternal war against the 'Grendel' aliens which are called Moorwen*. It keeps well to the Beowulf motifs whilst turning it into a good scifi movie. |
*The monster name is well chosen...
Moor - noun from Anglo-Saxon: a wild open area of high land, covered with rough grass or low bushes and heather, that is not farmed because the soil is not good enough
Wen - An Anglo-Saxon spirit, usually of demonic nature which manifests as marsh lights (Will-o-the-Wisp).
